As the snow started to fall late last night, and my husband was positive that I would be enjoying a snow day today, I started thinking about how I could use the possible snow day to my advantage...how could I make the best use of my day off??
The first thing I did this morning after my Mom's call saying "What are YOU going to do with your day off?" was to call Dr. Grill's office to see if there was any way that I could be seen today instead of waiting for the morning. I figured that getting the appointment out of the way today would my life at school a whole lot easier - even though the possibility of having school tomorrow looks gloomy...BUMMER!
Anywho - Georgette seemed to think this was a great idea and told me to come in at 1:00, unless I heard from them saying that they were closing at lunch time. Luckily for me, they stayed open just long enough to get this baby process started! Zig picked me up at 12:30 and we fought the snowy roads all the way to the hospital.
Meeting with Georgette is an awesome experience! Not only does she check and review family history and go through what to expect during the next 7 months, but she was well aware that I would have questions, worries, and concerns following a miscarriage. She was ready and willing to talk with us about our concerns, and more importantly, comfort my worries about every little twinge or change that I'm feeling. She did her best to reassure us that just because we've had one miscarriage, doesn't mean we're going to have another.
When I asked her about some of the pressure that I've been having in my lower stomach, she looked at me, just like an old friend would, and she said "Libby, do you REALIZE what is happening in your belly right now?" She walked me through all of the changes that are happening even this early - my pelvic bones are preparing for labor by softening and separating - pleasant, I know! She also said that my uterus is preparing to grow 500 times its normal size and that the muscles that hold up the uterus are already strained due to excess fluids and more weight in my midsection!
We also talked about my blood type, which presented itself as a problem with the first baby. We learned that I am B-, or RH negative in blood types...what that actually means is that my blood can actually build up antibodies against anything 'foreign' in my system. The blood can work against a growing baby, so there are shots that I will be receiving throughout the pregnancy as well as before and after the baby is born. Lovely...
With our first pregnancy and this new miracle, Georgette has been an angel! She makes herself available to us no matter what we need - a phone call, a reassuring discussion, encouragment to get through the sickness...she's just the best at her job and we're so thankful for her.
The best part of our visit was how perfectly the scheduling worked out for our next few appointments. I told Georgette about my days off this Friday and Monday for our mid-winter break. So...our first ultrasound is scheduled for this Friday at 10:00am, and our first appointment with Dr. Grill is scheduled for Monday at 9:00am! YAY!
After meeting with Georgette, with my 'pee in a cup' in hand, we walked down to the blood lab where they drew 7 tubes of my blood. If you remember from a previous post very early in this pregnancy, I am famous for the nurses MISSING my veins - and today, my friends, was no different! There is one nurse in the lab that HATES to see me coming! She missed me a few times when I was prego before, she missed on the day of my D&C, and she missed AGAIN today! We laughed together when she said that when she sees my name, she wants to run in the other direction! God love her... She yelled for my favorite lab tech, Patty, who saved the day - and it wasn't the first time she had done so.
The waiting game continues as we wait for our next round of tests - with the ultrasound and then our first doctor's exam. I can't wait to see this little creature inside of me... I know it will be love at first sight for it's Mommy and Daddy - I can only hope that the little peanut is OK in there!
I hope everyone stays safe in this nasty weather!
I'll be sure to post as soon as we see Baby Wray on Friday :)
Keep the prayers coming...we greatly appreciate them all!
