What are we up to today?

Nothin' much...

(Don't you just want to EAT HER UP!!!???)

Home...

I've been home from school for the past few days...

Long-story-short-
My Dad started feeling sick on Friday morning, and as the weekend progressed, he was suffering from severe stomach pain. He couldn't breathe deeply or lay down flat to rest without extreme amounts of pain.
For anyone who knows my Dad, he's a big strong man that is very rarely 'down.' So, when he expressed to my Mom that something might really be wrong, she rushed him to the Emergency Room right away.
X-Rays, blood work and CT scans were all preformed in the ER and he was told that he had pneumonia with another 'p' word that explains the severe pain he was having. He was admitted to his very own room in the hospital, where they pumped him full of antibiodics and fluids, let him eat and rest, and provided him with enough pain relief so that he could actually get some sleep!

I was able to visit with him twice in the ER, and Zig and I took care of things at their house. We went and turned on lights so that my Mom wouldn't have to come home to a dark house, and we made a million phone calls to the family and the girls at his office - so that everything was taken care of for him.

I decided very quickly that I would need to take time off to stay home with Brooke on Monday, since my Mom takes care of her during the day. Her energy needed to be focused on my Dad and getting him home and comfortable again. Not to mention the fact that Brooke has developed a horrible little cold of her own...that's the last thing I wanted my Mom to have to deal with on top of my sick father!

It was almost a blessing in disguise that I was home with Brooke yesterday - her cold seemed to get worse as the day went on! If you remember last year this time, Brooke was diagnosed to be an RSV baby and we were told to watch for certain things every time she gets sick. We've been so incredibly blessed and haven't had to deal with many other illnesses with her until now. All weekend and yesterday, she was congested and coughing, but not fevered at all. Zig and I broke out all of our gadgets - the humidifier, the vapor plug-ins, the baby Vicks, the thermometer, and the booger-sucker!
I spent my day yesterday, curled up with her on the chair, singing songs, practicing new words, reading books, and watching Baby Einstein!

Meanwhile, my Mom spent the day with my Dad in his hospital room. It didn't look like my Dad would be coming home for another day or two, so my Mom was planning on stopping by my house when she left the hospital so that I could swing into school to prepare my room for yet another substitute. When she arrived, she told me that my grandfather had just been rushed to the ER too! SERIOUSLY!!!???

Apparently, he was very sick to his stomach, weak, and experiencing some of the same pain that my Dad was feeling! His 90-year-old body isn't nearly as strong as my Dad's, so my Mom seemed very worried!
When I left my Dad's hospital room after a visit last night, we still hadn't heard whether or not my Pap would be staying or going home - and I still have no information this morning...

So, I'm home again today with Brooke - since my Mom needs the freedom to tend to my dad AND my Pap... I think I might be more worried about her than anyone else!

I'm praying for my Dad's return home today, for some good news about my grandfather, for my precious baby girl that just feels yucky, for some rest and peace for my Mom, and for my students at school - they better behave while Mrs. Wray is gone!

They say bad things happen in three's - my dad, Brooke's illness, and now H. Ray!
Goodness, LORD! Take it easy on us!

MJ, "Bazza," and SNOW!

Our first official blizzard of the season hit on Saturday...
The night before, I made a trip to the store (with every other wacko in town) and filled my cart with ingredients necessary to make and bake some of my favorite 'snowy day' food!
It all started with a batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies!
The most exciting part was getting to use my Grandma Mary's mixer for the first time.
It almost felt like she was in the kitchen with me... and I'm pretty sure these cookies tasted better than ever!

For lunch, you ask?
While I was on Maternity Leave with Brooke last year, it was my goal as a wife and new Mom to 'beef up' my recipe collection. I tried so many new recipes and this one is definitely my favorite! Potato Soup! (For anyone who has the Maitland Church of the Brethren cookbook, it's Janie Mellinger's Best Ever Potato Soup!) YUM!

If your name happens to be Brooke Mackenzie Wray, what do you do while Mommy does all of this crazy cooking?

You read the "baby" book, directly under Mommy's feet...

...you take naps!
This is how I found her room after her morning nap on Saturday!

**One of the funniest things that this child does happens after nap time every day. You know she's ready to get up when you hear the glow worm and bink, after bink, after bink, after bink come crashing to the ground! She has quite the arm - so we just listen for the 'thuds' and then go greet her!
(Notice the look of sheer terror on her face, as I was busy taking pictures instead of rescuing her from the crib!)

CONFESSION ALERT!
I am, always have been, and always will be a MICHAEL JACKSON FAN!
There! I said it!
(I don't know if that's WORSE or BETTER than admitting to my love of *NSYNC and NKOTB!)

I, of course, purchased my own copy of 'This Is It," and Brooke and I watched it on Saturday afternoon!
We danced and sang and turned it up as loud as it could go!
There's just something about Michael Jackson music that I love!
And I'm not ashamed to admit it!

Look at this lip -
Looks just like her Daddy's...

This is one of Brooke's favorite places to play!
I have strategically placed a few items in this cabinet that are safe for her to play with.
So, many times a day, she empties the toys, plays some sort of game with them - trading them in and out - and attemps to close herself inside!
I feel sure that one day, we won't be able to find her - THIS is the first place I'll check - as soon as she learns how to get herself all the way inside!
All a girl ever needs - Criso Oil, a Bingo Dobber, and an old tea pot!

Snowy days and mornings with Mommy at home allow for pancake breakfasts!
Too bad I'm out of Bisquick - these are the frozen kind!
"Bazza" anyone?
To Brooke, this means PIZZA! And MAN, does this child love Pizza!
Just yesterday, in the morning and after every nap, the first words out of her mouth when I opened her door were "No Bazza!"
Apparently, she's heard Mommy say "No Pizza" in response to her request for it multiple times a day!
Most importantly, in my time off, I've enjoyed the hours of time spent with this precious face!
She's talking SO MUCH more, she's working on a few more teeth, we're fixing some of the 'pooping trouble' we've been having, and we're trying to get a few things done around the house...

So - as I just heard the 4th bink and that blasted glow-worm crash to the floor upstairs, my princess is ready to start this day with her Mom!
I'm so thankful to be a teacher during the winter - gotta love snow days!!

Girly stuff...

It's natural that I would dream of a little girl in pretty dresses and bows...

...and it's natural that she would have adorable dresses to wear for church...since, after all, she IS a girl...

It's perfectly natural for me to fall in love with my baby girl wearing white tights under her dress and black shoes...
...but it would be silly for me to think that her 'tom-boy' spunk could be disguised underneath black bows and diamond earrings.

...but my little girl has never been so precious to me!

Have I ever mentioned how much I love THESE GIRLS TOO???

Spikey and Sparky...
Sparky and Diamond...

They are leaders, these girls are...

...and while they've become a permanent fixture in my classroom (even as 8th graders!!)...

...they've also become a permanant fixture in my heart!
I just LOVE all of this girly stuff!
